Privacy policy

How zanzibarguides.com handles your data and protects your privacy.

1. General principles

Zanzibar Guides collects as little as it can. There is no newsletter, no user account, no download in exchange for an email address, and no funnel built to capture personal data.

What we do collect is limited to what the site needs to work and what we need in order to answer an enquiry.

2. What the contact form collects

When you fill in the contact form we collect your first name, your email address, an optional WhatsApp number, the subject of your enquiry and your message.

Those details are used to answer you and nothing else. They are not used for marketing, not resold, and never added automatically to a mailing list.

They are kept for as long as it takes to deal with your enquiry, then deleted, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.

3. Analytics

The site may use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to measure its audience and improve what it publishes. They collect anonymised browsing data: pages viewed, session length, approximate location and device type.

Under the GDPR, both require your consent, requested by the cookie banner on your first visit. Declining analytics changes nothing about your access to the content.

Google Analytics runs with Google Consent Mode v2, so nothing reaches Google before you agree. Microsoft Clarity is subject to the same consent.

4. Cookies

The site uses the following kinds of cookie:

KindPurposeConsent
FunctionalKeeping the site working, including your cookie choiceNot required
AnalyticsAnonymous audience measurement (Google Analytics, Clarity)Required
MarketingNot used on this siteN/A

5. Affiliate links and third party sites

Some links on this site are affiliate links to outside platforms such as GetYourGuide, accommodation platforms, car hire and eSIM providers. Those platforms may set their own cookies once you follow the link and land on their site.

Tracking those clicks is how a platform attributes a commission to us when you book or buy. That commission costs you nothing extra.

Those sites have their own privacy policies. Zanzibar Guides is not responsible for how they collect data, so read their policies if you want the detail.

6. Hosting and data transfer

The site runs on the infrastructure of Vercel Inc. in the United States. Vercel meets GDPR requirements through standard contractual clauses and appropriate transfer mechanisms. For more on how Vercel handles privacy, see vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

7. Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access: confirmation of whether data about you is being processed.
  • Correction: putting right anything inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Erasure: asking for your data to be deleted.
  • Restriction: asking for processing to be paused.
  • Objection: objecting to your data being processed.
  • Portability: receiving your data in a structured format.

To exercise any of them, use the contact page. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority, in France the CNIL (cnil.fr).

8. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect legal or technical changes. The date of the last update is at the foot of this page, and it is worth checking now and then.
